Who Is the Tall Blue Avatar on Fortnite

Aliens are inbound in Fortnite, and with them comes the new resource Alien Artefacts - here's how to earn and what to spend them on.

Alien Artefacts are a new resource currency in Fortnite Season 7, which can be obtained within matches.

During each match in Season 7, you'll be able to earn alien artefacts in certain locations across the island or inside cosmic chests. Once you have enough, you'll be able to spend them into a new customizable alien character called Kymera.

It's worth keeping in mind that, while during the start of the season Alien Artefacts became available on Tuesdays, they're now appearing on Thursdays alongside Epic Quests.

This page will explain how to earn and spend alien artefacts in Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 7.

How to get Alien Artefacts

There are two primary ways to obtain alien artefacts in Fortnite:

  • Inside cosmic chests, which are new floating objects that contain a chest inside
  • Set locations across the map

If you see a floating rhombus-shaped object during your expeditions, make sure to make a quick stop since it's a sign of a cosmic chest. In order to open it, you'll have to use your pickaxe to smack all hit points. Continue doing so and it will break after a while, playing an animation before opening the chest.

Alien artefacts, much as gold bars, aren't a guaranteed drop, but it's always worth keeping an eye for cosmic chests just in case.

Cosmic Chests can't be done in Solos - instead, you and at least one additional squadmate will have to take turns and alternate attacks, but it doesn't take too long.

For cosmic chests, it's worth noting some conditions apply. In a discussion started by SuspectIsDown on reddit, it appears there could be a weekly cap of 15 Alien Fragments.

In addition, the purple Alien Artefacts you can find all give 4 artefacts each - but there seems to be a golden variant that grants 7 artefacts instead, which could appear further into the season (thanks to @iFireMonkey on twitter for the datamine!).

As well as cosmic chests, there are Alien Artefact locations which spawn out in the open - and are guaranteed ways of getting your hands on some each week.

Alien Artefact Week 1 locations in Fortnite

As for locations, you can find artefacts across the map in battle royale. During the first week the spots are as follows:

Helipad tower just west of Catty Corner, right below the chest at the top.

In the destroyed Logjam, found southwest of Weeping Woods, you'll find artefacts inside the barn on the southern end (if you're looking at the map, it's the structure in the lower left corner).

There's one right in the centre of The Aftermath, located in the middle of the map (beware of enemies when you go pick this one up!).

In the staircase of the Spire Tower located northeast from Believer Beach.

Frontyard of the farm located just north of Corny Complex.

It's worth keeping in mind that each time you pick up Alien Fragments you will receive a total of four fragments per batch.

Alien Artefact Week 2 locations in Fortnite

The start of a new week brings new Alien Artefact locations, and you can find them on the spots below:

Located southwest of Lazy Lake on ground level, under the external roof of the house found on the left island.

Next to the smaller pool northeast of Retail Row, at the side of an antenna.

There's another fragment under the bridge south of Corny Complex, located on the northern entrance.

One can be found northeast of Pleasant Park just outside the house on top of the cliffs, which overlooks the named location.

The last one is located on the big satellite found in between Coral Castle and Believer Beach.

Alien Artefact Week 3 locations in Fortnite

A new week means brand new Alien Artefact to hunt down. This time around, there are four of them instead of five, and you can find them on the spots below:

Located on Coral Castle, just on the second floor of the biggest castle in the centre. You can use your pickaxe with one of the columns inside and quickly build a stair to grab it.

Within Craggy Cliffs, look for one of the shops close to the east - it's placed exactly below the 'S' in 'Cliffs' if you're looking at the map. In the storage with the two boats hanging from the ceiling, you'll see the fragment on top of one of them.

There's another fragment on Boney Burbs, found on the second floor of the first house you see to the left if you enter from the western road. If you're looking at the map, it's right below the 'BO' of 'Boney'.

The last one is located on Slurpy Swamp. For this, if you're entering from the northern road, get inside the first big building on the east - one of the entrances has two garage doors, one of them being slightly opened, as well as some slurp barrels just outside. Once you enter, climb the stairs and you'll see the fragment floating in the opposite corner of the room. Break anything nearby to make a ladder and grab it.

Alien Artefact Week 4 locations in Fortnite

New week, new batch of Alien Artefacts. We are back to five after last week's change, and you can find them on the spots below:

Located on Steamy Stacks, on top of a few pipes next to the building that it's right in the centre - it's signalised with the number '4', and the pipes have a massive light next to them. If you see the revival truck, then it's just further down the street.

Just outside of Dirty Docks, located on the northeastern side, you'll find another artefact waiting to be picked up. If you're lost, just head towards the location from the shore, and you'll spot it in no time.

There's another fragment on Holly Hedges, found next to the house that is right at the centre. The backgarden is filled with plants and other materials, and the artefact is below one of the shelves close to the house.

Onto Weeping Woods now. There are two houses on the eastern side of the location, and if you look at the map, you're gonna want to enter the house that's on the right, facing the opposite side of the IO Base east. The artefact is close to the rooftop as you go upstairs.

The last one is located on Lazy Row. We know this is a rather packed location, but luckily the spot is far from the action. Head to the northern section and enter the shack on the left to find the artefact.

Alien Artefact Week 5 locations in Fortnite

A new batch of Alien Artefacts has just dropped, and you can find them on the spots below:

The first is located on Believer Beach, hidden inside a house's rooftop. If you look at the map you'll notice two big houses in the southern side of the area - the artefact is inside the western rooftop (next to the rocket graffiti). Use your pickaxe to break it open.

In Pleasant Park, head to the cabin in the centre of the area. If you look up, you'll see the second artefact close to the ceiling. Build a staircase and grab it.

There's another fragment northeast of Craggy Cliffs, found next to a lonely tree overlooking the ocean. It's on the northern edge of the unnamed area surrounded by the shore, right past a campfire.

Onto Misty Meadows now. Taking the bridge as a reference while looking at the map, head to the left side of the area and onto the tallest tower there, which is located on the side of the road where the payphone is. The artefact is inside the tower's peak, so smack it with your melee.

The last one is located on Retail Row. Head to the payphone in the southeastern side of the area, and you'll stumble upon the fifth Alien Artefact behind it, close to the children's park.

Alien Artefact Week 6 locations in Fortnite

A brand new batch of Alien Artefacts is now available, and you can find them on the spots below:

The first is located on Lockie's Lighthouse, inside the shed that is right next to the house.

In Corny Complex, there's an artefact floating in the ceiling of a small shed next to the corn fields - you can see the lake from its location.

There's another fragment found in an alien infested site, east of Hayseed's Farm and in between Steamy Stacks and Dirty Docks, close to the bridge.

Onto Orelia's Ruins now. This is a small island found all the way southeast of Slurpy Swamp. If you're looking at the map, it's located right below the southern coast. You can find the artefact on ground level of the ruins.

The last one is located on Retail Mountain. Specifically, you can find it inside the outpost that has the staircase and the antenna on the roof.

Alien Artefact Week 7 locations in Fortnite

Brand new week, brand new batch of Alien Artefacts to collect, and you can find them on the spots below:

The first is located on FN Radio, which is an IO Base southeast of Craggy Cliffs. It's inside the main building on ground level next to the computers.

South of Catty Corner, there's an artefact located in Camp Cod. Go inside the destroyed warehouse and you will see it floating on the second floor, right after the human targets.

Slightly northwest of Pleasant Park you'll find the third artefact. It's just outside of Stealthy Stronghold - head to the southern entrance and then go inside the left tower. The artefact is right next to the door.

Onto Gorgeous Gorge now. This is a bridge southeast of the Aftermath and east of Weeping Woods. In one of its exteriors you'll see boats hanging from the ceiling - well, the artefact is right beneath them. You can either jump to grab it mid-air or just build two walls and a floor beneath the bridge.

The last one is located on Dampy Dish. Located southwest of Slurpy Swamp, this artefact is located inside the main building. Get to the second floor and look for the bathroom - break the first bathroom stall on the right to grab it.

Alien Artefact Week 8 locations in Fortnite

It's a new week, so you know what that means: a brand new batch of Alien Artefacts awaits, and you can find them on the spots below:

The first is located southwest of Boney Burbs, floating in the centre of the alien-infested area.

You can find the second one below the Camp Cod Bridge, which is located southeast of Misty Meadows.

Onto another alien-infested site. This time you'll have to head towards the one southeast of Blue Steel Bridge. The artefact is floating beneath a massive rock.

You can find another fragment floating inside the centre of Hydro 16, so make sure to grab some materials for stairs.

The last one is located on Dockside Dish, below the helicopter landing pad in the northwestern corner.

Alien Artefact Week 9 locations in Fortnite

New week, new Alien Artefacts to gather across the Fortnite map. You can find them on the spots below:

The first is floating mid-air in the centre of Defiant Dish, which is the IO Base east of Weeping Woods.

Speaking of which, there's an artefact around Weeping Woods itself, too. This can be found south of the lone house in the northwestern corner, and slightly north of the spire tower, inside a small house.

There's another one in Gas N' Grub, the gas station found south of Corny Complex. Instead of the station itself, however, go inside the restaurant next to it to find the artefact.

You can find another fragment on Stack Shack, which is a lone shank found just outside the map, northwest of Holly Hatchery. There are five rock-shaped spots on the map - the one you want is the bottom spot, which has a small island on the right side.

The last one is located on Unremarkable Shack, which can be found in the island northwest of Craggy Cliffs. Once there, head to the southeastern corner to find the shack - the artefact is right beneath it.

Alien Artefact Week 10 locations in Fortnite

A fresh batch of Alien Artefacts is inbound. You can find them on the spots below:

The first is hiding inside a light-blue container in Destined Dish, which is the IO base southeast of Misty Meadows. It's right past the main entrance.

Don't leave the area just yet, and instead head all the way up the mountain to Weather Station. There's an artefact hiding beneath the panels behind the house.

There's another one southeast of Weeping Woods, just on the side of the road (in between three trees). As for extra reference, it's on the opposite side of the big boulder on the southeastern corner of the named location.

Remember Shanty Town, the area west of Slurpy Swamp? You can find an artefact near water level if you head down the stairs of the middle structure (the middle one aligned east when looking at the map).

The last one is located on Sharky Shell, which is the island north of Coral Castle. The artefact is on ground level - just look for the broken elevator to find it.

Until next week!

What can you spend Alien Artefacts on in Fortnite?

The new resource can be spent on customizing Kymera, a new battle pass exclusive alien character that comes with an array or purchasable parts.

All of these cosmetic options can be obtained solely with alien artefacts, and the cost vary from 2 to around 17 for the most expensive ones. You can change both the top and the bottom of Kymera's head, eyes, skin colour and so on.

As expected you don't really gain any advantage in the game, as it's for purely cosmetic purposes. But it makes for a great opportunity to bring back your inner Sims-fan self and tweak the outfit to your liking.
